CvilleBioHub

Connecting Central Virginia’s Life Sciences Ecosystem

The Brief & Strategic Challenge

CvilleBioHub connects companies, founders, investors, industry leaders, and talent across Central Virginia’s life sciences ecosystem. As the organization approached its tenth anniversary, its existing website no longer reflected the community’s growth, ambition, or impact.

The goal was to create a more cohesive digital experience that positioned CvilleBioHub as a leading hub for life sciences innovation while making its programs, companies, resources, and opportunities easier to discover. The site also needed to serve diverse audiences, support ongoing communications, and provide a flexible foundation for future growth.

As Design Director at Storyware, I led the UX process, translating the project’s sitemap and content outline into user flows and high-fidelity wireframes. I established how audiences would navigate the site, how content and programs would connect, and how the overall experience could better support the organization’s goals. Chaski Global subsequently led UI design and implementation.

UX Architecture & Stakeholder Alignment

CvilleBioHub serves a broad ecosystem, from startup founders and life sciences executives to investors, researchers, students, and job seekers. Each audience brings different needs, making intuitive navigation and clear pathways through the site essential.

Building on the sitemap and content outline, I developed user flows and high-fidelity wireframes that shaped the site’s information hierarchy, page structures, and navigation. The UX connected key areas, including membership, startups and the Commonwealth BioAccelerator, the regional ecosystem, insights, events, and talent development, into a more unified experience.

The approach balanced organizational storytelling with practical utility: elevating the region’s life sciences companies and innovation while helping visitors find relevant programs, resources, events, jobs, and opportunities to participate.

The wireframes also established a flexible framework for an evolving organization, with content structures designed to support ongoing updates and accommodate future capabilities.

The Outcome

CvilleBioHub launched a redesigned website intended to better reflect the organization’s role in advancing Virginia’s life sciences ecosystem. The new experience brings its programs, community, companies, events, and opportunities together within a more unified digital presence.

The high-fidelity wireframes established the UX direction and page-level structure for the project, providing the foundation for the subsequent UI design and implementation by Chaski Global.
